Going vegetarian sounds daunting because cutting off meat and dairy isn’t easy: especially if you’re someone who’s used to junk or binge eating. But the idea isn’t to transit at once, but rather, to incorporate it into your diet. By doing this, your body will become used to the new stuff going in and will thank you for it in the long run. According to Dr. John Ankama of Nasara Specialist Hospital, Kaduna, following a few relatively easy steps can help you achieve this.

Learn as much as you can: Familiarise with what it means to go vegetarian. Get to know the benefits and prepare yourself for the transition. Less meat, more vegetable and plant-based meals will do the trick. If possible, make your partner or family join in so that you’re not the only one going vegetarian.

Add before you subtract: Start adding the beans, vegetables, grains and the like into your diet. Experiment with recipes till you find some that you enjoy. There are definitely recipes for your taste. Then you can switch some of your regular foods with it.

Continue motivating yourself: When you remind yourself why you made the choice to incorporate a vegetarian diet into your lifestyle; such as the health benefits and the changes, you will appreciate your effort more and in turn, the desire to go back will not seem too inviting.

Keep a positive vibe always: Instead of pondering on the foods you’re not eating, focus on the new dishes you’re enjoying. Don’t forget that there is a way to twist almost any dish into a more vegetarianfriendly version.
