Eid-El-Maulud: Thousands hold procession in Bauchi
Thousands of Muslims held a procession through the major streets of Bauchi State yesterday as part of the Eid-El-Maulud celebration. The Maulud procession began as early as 8:00 am from the emir’s palace through major streets in the metropolis and lasted for hours, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered.
The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu and Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar observed the procession from the palace.
Youths and children dressed in colourful attires from various Islamic schools participated in the procession carrying banners with various inscriptions and singing praise songs in honour of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The renowned Bauchi based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, stressed the importance of Maulud celebration, adding that it shows the strength and light of Islam.
He advised government to introduce policies that would rejuvenate the economy and improve the wellbeing of Nigerians and called on Muslims to use the Maulud period to offer special prayers for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.
The scholar also spoke about the importance of acquiring Islamic education.
“It follows that the growth, development and evolution of a vibrant and stable economy are predicated on a well-educated and informed populace. People should work together to chart a common front towards entrenching peace, fostering unity, scholarship and promotion of education for the wellbeing of the society”, he said.
