Ramadan is a beautiful time for self-reflection, spirituality and blessings. It is also the month our skins suffer due to negligence and laziness. Taking care of one’s skin calls for extra efforts during Ramadan. This is because your skin goes through various changes. To avoid the bad effects of dehydrated skin like breakouts, dry patches and looking lackluster due to less hours of sleep and deficiency of certain nutrients in the body, below are the best tips and tricks to keep your skin happy and healthy throughout the holy month.

It is often said that prevention is better than cure. This can’t be emphasized enough. If you want your skin in the best form, you are going to get on a beauty routine and stick to it. Prepare your skin and body by using moisturizers liberally on a daily basis. Shield yourself from sun and use sunblock with SPF 50 at least 15 minutes before going out; it is vital.

Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of water and natural fresh juices. Your skin and body may not be receiving standard hydration and nutrition while fasting, and they need some extra help to stay hydrated. Drinking carbonated or sugary beverages like soda or aerated drinks, as well as caffeine, is strictly a no-no because these too can cause dehydration. Take as much as you can when you are having suhur or iftar.

Consume foods that are rich in antioxidants like strawberries and blueberries. Dates are also a great source of other boosters like Vitamin A and magnesium, which promote prime skin health. Try to stick to grilled, rather than fried options. Cashews and almonds are good at repairing and rejuvenating dehydrated skin as they are crammed with healthy fibers, fatty acids and proteins.

Moisturising your skin during Ramadan is very important. You should make sure that you are applying a hydrating facial cream and body lotion after bathing and before bed. If you are going out, try to seek shade where possible. Also keep a facial mist (rosewater is a great option) on hand as this will help cool off the skin and provide necessary hydration.

If you feel you have not gotten off your beauty routine wagon, get yourself on total cleanse for two days or more, depending on what you can handle, by only eating fruits and vegetables with plenty of water for suhur and iftar.
