NBBF crisis: Election must be after our tenure - Kida Tijjani’s Kwese league, an invitational tournament Kida making empty threats - Bello
The factional President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Ahmadu- Musa Kida has said he was not afraid of a new election to elect the NBBF board.
Speaking at a stakeholder meeting he organised in Abuja at the weekend, he said election must however, be after the completion of his board’s tenure.
Kida insisted that what is required was a “validation of a mandate”.
He said: “I am not scared of any election. Election will hold after our tenure.”
The world basketball governing body, FIBA while maintaining communication with the Kida-led board, had called for a new election into the NBBF board.
However, Kida is insisting that NBBF had no constitution, adding that elections can not be held until a constitution is put in place.
“We have no standing constitution, we need to draft one, get it validated by FIBA and the Nigerian government. Then, we can move from there,” he said.
On the contrary, checks revealed that there is actually an operational constitution which was drafted by the Umar Tijjani -led board and was validated by the congress before the federation’s election last year.
Addressing stakeholders at the meeting, Kida also said the ongoing Kwese Premier League being supervised by the Tijjani’s faction is an invitational league, adding that champions from the league will not be allowed to represent the country in international competitions.
Speaking to Daily Trust on the phone, Ajibade Bello, the Kwese League Coordinator said Kida was only making empty threats as FIBA recorginises the Kwese League as the only league in Nigeria.
He recalled that the Kida-led
