Community demands PDP Sabongari Reps ticket

- From Andrew Agbese, Kaduna

Concerned members of the Basawa Community in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have appealed to the leadership of the party to zone the party’s House of Representatives ticket to Basawa district “in the interest of justice and fairness”.

The members in a statement by its leader, Alhaji Ali Go-Slow, said the appeal became necessary in view of the fact that the House of Representatives seat of the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency has remained in Sabon Gari district since the advent of the present political dispensation in 1999.

“Our appeal to the leadership of the party at both state and national levels is sincerely out of concerns expressed by all PDP members from the area. Zoning PDP’s House of Representatives ticket to Basawa district will certainly make our people to have a sense of belonging, and contribute meaningfully to the democratic development of the area, state and the country at large,” he said.

The group also called on former chairman of the PDP national caretaker committee, Senator Ahmed Muhammad Makarfi, and other PDP elders and stakeholders from the area to look into the issue by zoning the ticket to the district.

The Kakakin Samaru, who described PDP members from the area as “loyal and peaceful” noted that the area had been relegated to the background in the scheme of political responsibilities, saying the district benefited only once when it was given a slot of commissioner.

He said Basawa area was a big district and should not be ignored in terms of political responsibilities as it is host to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a host of others public institutions.
