‘I’ll sponsor bills on poverty alleviation, responsive representation’
A top contender for the Yobe North senatorial ticket on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Muhammad Yahuza, says he will sponsor bills that will focus more on poverty alleviation and responsive representation for his constituents if elected as a senator during the 2019 general elections.
Dr Yahuza, a retired civil servant made this declaration at the weekend while addressing journalists after submitting his nomination form at the APC secretariat.
He said his experience in the civil service would reflect on quality and strengthened debates that would benefit his constituency and the nation in general.
“I will provide effective and responsive representation for the people of Yobe North. I will establish an effective system of communication between me and the people of my constituency in order to ensure free flow of information for the purpose of understanding the problems of the people.
“Again, I will strengthen the debates in the Senate by making useful and well researched and articulated contributions. I will deploy my experience in livestock development in the Senate in order to find a lasting solution to the pastoralistsfarmers conflict,’’ Dr Yahuza stated.
Speaking on the controversy regarding direct and indirect primaries currently threatening some APC states chapters, Yahuza noted that the situation in Yobe should not be categorised as a major crisis as the party would adhere to laid down constitutional provisions in resolving any issue.
“The APC constitution makes provision for direct, indirect or consensus in choosing candidates. The party is aware of these modes and won’t go outside this circle in nominating it’s candidates,’’ he noted.
