Gov Lalong, 250 golfers participate in Buhari Golf Cup Tournament
Governor Simon Lalong along with 250 golfers across the North Central participated in the President Muhammadu Buhari Golf Cup Tournament at the Lamingo Golf Course in Jos the Plateau State Capital.
The competition which teed-off at 8:00am had both male and female golfers which cut across different categories. 40 players are expected to qualify from the zone with the first 10 qualifying from the PRO-AM finale in Abuja on January 31-3rd February, 2019, while the remaining 30 will slug it out in Kaduna for the grand qualifying on January 26-27, 2019.
Both the male and the females golfers are hoping to qualify from the zone and put in their best in their games, despite the fact that some of them are fatigues as they just returned from the national golf competition in Lagos, and other just concluded the Plateau State Governor’s PRO-AM Golf Tournament.
The event witnessed lots of activities ranging from prevailing businesses around the club, many cardis youths being engaged by the golfers and hundreds of spectators who came to watch the golfers in action.
In his remarks, the Captain of the Lamingo Golf Club, Tang Dapoet, said the competition is a noble event and that it is in celebration of President Buhari who is passionate about sports.
He commended the good turnout of both the golfers and the spectators, adding that the participation of Governor Lalong and a visiting golfer representing the Governor of Edo State added colour to the event.
The Captain noted that the club is very lucky because it has recently been hosting lots of golf competitions, adding that it is indicative that Plateau State is gradually turning to the golf capital of Nigeria.
He said the significance of the competition apart from meeting it’s sports needs is its value chain impact on businesses (those who came to sall one item or the other), youth empowerment (the cardis carrying golfers kits and getting paid), among other things.
Dapoet commended Daily Trust for the initiative, adding that it should continue the feat because of its overall positive impact on the society.
