Jigawa Golf zonal qualifier reward only best players - PGA Sec
The secretary of professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGA), Jide Bolaji, has described the ongoing Daily Trust President Muhammdu Buhari Golf cup North West Zonal qualifying series in Dutse Royal Golf Course as a tough tournament that punishes bad shoots and rewards good shoots.
The PGA secretary, made the statement yesterday while speaking to Daily Trust in Dutse, saying the competition which was only organized for amateurs was a welcome development in golf family adding that such event was not only capable of assembly the golfers but stands as one of the better platform for improving golf sport in the country.
According to him, professional golfers in the country and those from the West Africa neighbouring were anxious to be part of the national tournament of the ongoing competition that was billed to take place from January 31 to February 3, 2019 in IBB Golf Club Abuja.
Bolaji, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the enormous support that he was to the golf sport in the country, while he said Kudos must also go to Daily Trust for organizing and sponsoring such a competition in the country.
He explained that competition of this nature did not only play a role in unifying the country but also create awareness among the citizenry saying, they were in Jos, plateau state for similar competition, it was not only conducted successfully but also peacefully and that by what he saw in Jigawa state the story would be same as the entire place was calm and peaceful.
“The tournament is in high spirit as bad shoots are punished while good ones are rewarded. At the end of the day we are going to have the best that will represent the zone. Organizing tournament of golf as in any other sport enhences unity not only among the sport men and women but for the entire citizenry.
“we must give kudos to Daily Trust Newspaper for organizing big tournament of this nature. Organizing tournament for golfers is one of the sure way of taking the sport to the next level. We must also commend the president Buhari though, he does not play golf but for the support he has been giving to the game. It is just so wonderful.”
