SDP national chairman absent as Gana unveils presidential campaign
The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae, was absent when Prof. Jerry Gana unveiled his key fivepoint agenda code-named SWIFT in Abuja yesterday.
Prof. Gana said he had to go ahead with the launch of the presidential campaign because a competent court had declared him as the SDP “legitimate candidate” stating that “we are very conscious of the rule of law.”
He had in a letter dated December 27, 2018 invited Chief Falae as “Chief Host” at yesterday’s “unveiling of the vision and programme” of his Presidential Campaign and at the “Summit of Stakeholders” which he is planning for January 5, 2019.
Falae had purportedly said in a statement on Friday that since all the relevant processes had been served on Prof. Gana’s counsel, the party could not and should not attend any of the events being scheduled by Prof. Gana and his campaign committee as it would amount to a breach of the court process and might amount to contempt of court.
But the Director General of Gana’s presidential campaign known as G19, Dr Ike Neliaku, dismissed the argument that the Court of Appeal process had been served on his principal.
Unveiling the campaign agenda yesterday in Abuja, Prof. Gana said in SWIFT’s plan, ‘S’ represented Security re-enginering, ‘W’ for Wealth creation, ‘I’ for Infrastructure excellence and power supply, ‘F’ for Fight against corruption and indiscipline, while ‘T’ meant Technology, education and human development.
