Two arrested over illegal possession of arms

Detectives from the Force Criminal Intelligen­ce and Investigat­ion Department (FCIID), Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos have arrested two leaders over illegal possession of fire arms.

The suspects identified simply as Akpudo and one Ogbuag, according to the police, were arrested at the weekend from their base in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. They were brought to Lagos where they were quizzed.

The leaders are said to be the President General of Eziowelle community and the Chairman of the security committee in Idemili North Local Government Area.

It was gathered that a yet-to-be confirmed number of automatic pump action guns along with several rounds of ammunition­s, were allegedly recovered from the suspects.

The police said the arms and ammunition­s were allegedly recovered from the house of the suspect.

The police said that other members of the community who are on the police wanted list are being hunted for.

A police source at the FCIID said that the home of the security committee chairman was raided based on credible informatio­n that the suspect was managing unlicensed armed security outfit, imposition of illegal taxes /levies.

It was learnt that the arrest of the duo followed a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, by some elders of the community alleging that the suspects are involved in criminal and fraudulent activities.
