Start your year on a healthier note

- by HAFSAH ABUBAKAR MATAZU

The New Year comes with the opportunity to start afresh, turn a new leaf and new beginning. This also gives you a chance to start on a healthier note than you ended 2018. Dr. Aysha Adama of Nisa Hospital Abuja notes that there are small yet mighty lifestyle changes that can help you stay in healthier shape. How do you go about doing this? We are giving you all the tips to pencil into your New Year resolutions for a healthier 2019.

Eat mindfully: Yes, say goodbye to binge eating once and for all. Draw up a meal plan and stick to it. Impulsive snacking will help you stay in shape and keep your body clock working the way it should.

Get more rest: Make that five or six hours of sleep seven or eight next year. The beginning of a peaceful mind is having a well rested one. So set yourself a bedtime, cancel all the distractions, and make sure you are in bed every night at your designated time.

Positive energy: Leave the bad energy behind. Anything or anyone that may stress you, cause you worry or anxiety needs to go. 2019 should be a year of reflection and positivity. Anything other than that needs to go.

Pencil in walks: You don’t have to be a regular at the gym to stay fit. Even a 30 minute walk daily can be as effective when done right. That walk can become a jog, and later a run. Just take them as baby steps first.

Go for checkups: Make it a new habit to go to the hospital for a checkup, even if you are feeling absolutely fine. Not all illnesses show their symptoms at the early stages. Regular checkups will help in identifying any possible health threats before they get out of hand.

Take the stairs: Tiny changes like taking the stairs instead of the lift will make a whole lot of difference to your heart and will cut your chances of heart disease by far. With additional information from the internet
