One dead, two injured as truck rams into car

One person was killed while two others were injured when a truck rammed into a car at Ikota, along Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos yesterday.

The incident, according to emergency rescue workers, happened early yesterday when a wine coloured Toyota Corolla car with registrati­on number FJK 353 GC was hit from behind while on motion by the truck. The car thereafter rammed into a culvert.

This resulted in the death of the driver/owner of the car while two other occupants who sustained “critical injuries” were taken to a hospital.

The spokesman of the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, said the truck driver immediatel­y escaped when the incident happened.

In another developmen­t, the state has recorded series of fire incidents across the metropolis, leaving millions of properties and goods destroyed.

The first incident reported yesterday was Olaleye market in Shomolu, Bariga area of Lagos. Emergency officials comprising LASEMA fire unit, the Federal Fire Service battled to curtail the spread of the fire to nearby residentia­l buildings. No live was lost while no injury was recorded but properties worth billions of naira were destroyed.

A nylon factory was also gutted by fire at Winfuke Street, Ahmadiya, inward Abule Egba along the LagosAbeok­uta expressway.

The other fire incident recorded was in a one-storey building at number 42 Olowu street Ikeja.

Though the cause of the fire was not yet known at the time of filing this report, the DG/CEO of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke– Osanyintol­u, said efforts were on to curtail it and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
