478 banditry victims get relief materials in Raba, Wurno

Four hundred and seventy eight victims of banditry attacks, kidnapping­s and animal rustling in Wurno and Raba local government areas of Sokoto state have received relief materials to cushion effect of the incidents.

Speaking at the distributi­on of the items, the Head of Sokoto zonal office, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Dr Kofoworola Soleye, noted the items to include food stuff, blankets, clothing materials, children wears, mosquito nets, soap and building materials among others. The NEMA Sokoto head who was represente­d by the Zonal Planning Officer, Mr Tukur revealed that the gesture was facilitate­d by the member representi­ng Wurno/Raba Federal Constituen­cy,Arc. Ibrahim Almustpha in view of the plight of his constituen­ts following the incidents.

According to him, the distributi­on was sequel to approval made by NEMA’s Director General, AVM Mohammed Mohammed as approved by the Minister of Humanitari­an Affairs, Hajia Sadiya Umar and President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a remark, Arc. Almustapha said about 3,000 persons were affected in 26 communitie­s within the constituen­cy.

The lawmaker who was represente­d by Alhaji Shehu Chacho, applauded President Buhari for his prompt response.

Chairman distributi­on committee Malam Umar Ahmadu-Raba, explained that they screened 478 beneficiar­ies directly affected by banditry activities in the two local government areas.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiar­ies, Bala Ibrahim who lost his mother in the attack, and Malam Hussani Ara expressed appreciati­on for the initiative.

They recounted how they lost valuables including about 60 cows to bandits after paying N1.9 million levy imposed on them. The beneficiar­ies said the gesture would assist in alleviatin­g the impact of the attacks.
