Mocha Beauty crowns Jemima Dzer Miss July

- By Hope Chizoba Nwankwo

The organizers of Mocha Beauty crowned 18-year-old Jemima Dzer as winner of the Miss July digital pageant contest.

The event took place recently in Abuja where the winner got a cash prize N200,000.

Miss Dzer, a student of Federal University of Technology Minna, expressed gratitude and said she will use part of the money to provide sanitary pads for girls in need.

Managing Director of Mocha Beauty, Mrs. Devaan Mom described the digital pageant contest as another form of empowerment.

“Mocha Beauty gives out cash prizes to winners and they are encouraged to do something noble with some of it. Although we tagged it ‘pageant’, what we really do is empower three young ladies with small grants in a monthly contest. The winner emerges based on the number of votes she is able to get.

“I want to change the narrative around beauty contests. There is the ideology that you have to look a certain way before you are considered beautiful. For Mocha Beauty, regardless of your weight, height, or face, our models do not win based on looks but their capacity to mobilize votes for themselves based on simple majority.”

Veteran broadcaster, Mrs. Eugenia Abu, who crowned the queen said she is proud of Mocha Beauty because of what they portray. “It teaches tenacity and the passion not to give up. We hope young people pick up the most important values of hard work, kindness, empathy, being well behaved and respectful.”
