Green Sahara Farms to implement ESG principles

- By Idowu Isamotu

Green Sahara Farms have committed to implementing the Environment and Social Governance (ESG) principles that would guarantee farmers and stakeholders fair pricing and protection of the environment.

Green Sahara Farms (GSF), an Agro Development solutions provider, was established to deliver topmost value through standardized agricultural enterprise developing people, systems, and solutions.

The Managing Director GSF Suleiman Dikwa noted that with the commitment, the purpose of operation would not only be limited to making profit but also impacting the environment.

Alhaji Dikwa said that the board members of the Green Sahara Farm during its board meeting in Abuja agreed to commit and implement the ESG principles in their day to day activities, especially in their contract agreement with farmers.

“Under the ESG, the farmers get more value for their crops and the environment is more protected. In essence, we are making a commitment to pay our worker well, treat the farmers better.

“We don’t have ESG principles in Nigeria that is why our farmers suffer, in other countries, farmers never lose because ones you have produced, if the market is bad government will take it,” he said.

The MD stressed that it was very unfortunate that although about 1,000 companies who control the world GDP have committed to the ESG principle which means paying farmers fairly and in the financial statement you can report such, but the principles are not being implemented by most cooperate organizations in Nigeria.
