Dantek, M-Seven, Nakudu Jostle for captain’s cup glory

The ancient commercial city of Kano is blooming with polo excitement as the 2021 Captain’s Cup polo tournament gets to its final stages with top teams like Susplan, Faz Agro, Nakudu leading others in the race to emerge champions.

Other ambitious teams that are campaignin­g for the winner-takes-all trophy that remains one of the biggest polo titles of offer for only playing members of the Kano Polo Club includes, Essbee Mobile, Nasiriya Furniture, Fas Agro team, Dantex, Akasma and M-Seven team pivoted by Ado Ismail.

Polo Royals can authoritat­ively report that the tournament which was decided over two weekends of intensive polo games galloped off on a blistering note on February 19, with nine home based teams boosting a blend of newcomers and establishe­d names, is open exclusivel­y to playing members of the foremost Kano Polo Club.

Vice-Captain, Kano Polo Club Siyudi Abdulahi who is pivoting Titan’s campaign, expressed delight at the turn out of the teams and the commitment, discipline levels of the participan­ts and level of compliance to the COVID-19 safety protocol.

He told Polo Royals on phone from Kano that though there are no clear favourites going into this weekend’s finals, those that secured wins in their opening games would be coming into the final stage to consolidat­e on their opening victories, just as those without points are bracing for showdown to boost their bruised egos.
