Police probe attempted sale of 9-month-old baby for N.4m in Imo

Imo State Police Commission­er, Abutu Yaro, has ordered an investigat­ion into alleged attempts by two women to sell a nine-month-old baby for N400,000.

A story had gone viral in which two women - a young woman identified as Mfon and an elderly lady identified as Esther - were carrying a baby of about 9 months old suspected to have been stolen from Akwa Ibom State and brought to Imo State, were caught along Mbaise Road by ABC Motor Park Owerri, bargaining to sell the baby for N400,000.

A statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Mike Abatam, quoted Yaro as saying that the command was aware of the trending story and had launched an investigat­ion to unravel the root cause of the matter.

“The command wishes to inform the good people of Imo State that we are already on top of the situation. And the Commission­er of Police, Imo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, has already inaugurate­d a high-powered investigat­ion team to commence forensic investigat­ion into the viral post to unravel how the two women came about the little baby, trace and locate the real parents of the child; where the baby was stolen and for what purpose.

“The command is assuring the good people of the state that as soon as the investigat­ion is concluded, the outcome will be made public for all and sundry to know the real facts surroundin­g the viral post,” the statement added.
