Police exhume remains of pastor killed by abductors in Rivers

- From Victor Edozie, Port Harcourt

The Rivers State police command, in the late night of Friday, exhumed the remains of a pastor of a local church, God is God Ministry, Friday Olakada, who was killed by suspected kidnappers.

The commissioner of police in Rivers State, Eboka Friday, who briefed newsmen at the scene of the shallow grave where the victim was buried at Lorre community in Khana Local Government Area, said the victim was kidnapped on May 14, 2021 and was killed by the abductors 10 days after his family paid N500,000 ransom to the kidnappers.

CP Eboka explained that following ‘technical intelligence,’ the police were able to arrest the four suspects, who took his men to where they buried their victim.

One of the suspects, Prince Odi, who spoke to newsmen, said somebody contacted his gang, saying he wanted to buy a Sienna vehicle.

Odi said the pastor was lured on the pretence of hiring him to carry goods for them at Lorre community. On getting to the community, he was kidnapped and a ransom was requested from his family.

The suspect revealed that the Sienna belonging to the pastor was sold after he was kidnapped.

He said a member of the gang, who he said the pastor recognised, suggested that he should be killed to conceal their act.

The suspect further explained that the deceased pastor was killed after he prayed for him and his gangs.

Odi further disclosed that the pastor, a father of six, was buried in a shallow grave after he was killed.

The immediate younger brother to the deceased, Woko Olakada, commended the police for their efforts in arresting the culprits, adding that justice should be served.
