Plateau crises: JNI urges calm

- From Dickson S. Adama, Jos

Following the recent violence that occurred in several communities across three local government areas of Plateau State, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) Plateau State Chapter, has called for calm and peaceful resolution by stakeholders.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Sani Mudi, the JNI also warned miscreants against hiding under the guise of the crises to ignite conflict in Jos North through unprovoked attacks on innocent citizens.

“The Jama’atu Nasril Islam Plateau State Chapter, under the leadership of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Wase, Dr Muhammad Sambo Haruna, wishes to express its deep concern over the recurring violence in some local government areas of the northern part of the state, in particular Bassa, Jos South, Riyom and the attempt by some miscreants to reignite conflict in Jos North Local Government Area through unprovoked attacks on innocent citizens and destruction of property,” he said.

“These are truly worrisome developments which pose serious threats to the efforts of the state government to solidify the gains made through its peace-building activities which have so far delivered impressive results. The JNI views the bloody crises in Bassa and Riyom LGs as an abominable desecration of lives which is against the teaching of Islam. We therefore wish to appeal to all concerned to sheath the sword and embrace the path of peace and reconciliation,” he added.
