Pillars fall in Uyo as Shammasu can’t stop saving Nasarawa Utd

- By David Ngobua

Struggling Dakkada FC left it late to beat former champions, Kano Pillars in their week 11 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match played yesterday at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo.

It was a joyous home-coming for Dakkada who had played their past three home matches away from home in Benin City where they were banished following the ugly incidents of MatchDay 4 against Remo Stars in Uyo.

Consequently, the Akwa Ibom State side didn’t find life palatable in Benin as they lost 0-1 to Wikki Tourists in week 7 and drew 0-0 with Rangers in week 9.

However, Dakkada returned home yesterday on a winning note as they managed to beat Kano Pillars 1-0 for their third victory of the season.

The only goal of the match came in the 85th minute when Pillars’ goalkeeper, Joshua Enahalo, punched Uwana Asuquo’s 25-yard free-kick which allowed Musa Bashiru to calmly tap in the rebound.

In the other week 11 match played yesterday, Nasarawa United forced hosts Abia Warriors to a 1-1 draw and Mohammed Shammasu was once again the hero for the visitors.

Former Wikki Tourists and FC IfeanyiUbah striker, Godwin Obaje, gave Abia Warriors an early lead in the 3rd minute when he nodded home off a brilliant freekick by Paul Sampson but in his usual characteristic, super-sub, Shammasu, came off the bench to level the scores in the 82nd minute for Nasarawa United.

Seven of the remaining week 11 matches will be played across match venues today with the star match being the fixture between Plateau United and Rivers United in Jos.
