Civil defence athletes will continue to win laurels for Nigeria – Audi

- By Joshua Odeyemi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has assured that the NSCDC athletes will continue to make Nigerian proud in international competitions.

The Commandant General made this known while speaking with journalists at the weekend during the NSCDC walk, jog and route march exercise in Abuja.

He said just recently the personnel won some laurels in major competitions in the country, adding that it shows the corps was still among the best.

Audi said the Corps will continue to place a high priority on sports to ensure that its personnel continue to do well in sports.

“Definitely it [the involvement of NSCDC in sports] will not go down because we have set up machinery on the ground to make sure that we encourage our athletes if they cannot improve, they should be able to sustain the tempo of our record,” he said.

Audi, who assumed his position as the commandant in March 2021, said the exercise is “meant to help us improve on our physical fitness, our agility and smartness.”

He maintained that the personnel would perform better in their daily assignments when they are fit.

He said the exercise is in line with his vision, adding that “when I came it, I made it very clear that I have come with a passion, a drive, a collective resolve to push this service to be a world-class elite organisation that will protect civilians and provide safety to critical national infrastructure.

It is the first exercise, the paramilitary agency is embarking on since November 2014.
