Common skincare mistakes to avoid

- Compiled by Rosemary Etim Bassey

The beauty industry is currently fascinated with skin care, which can be beneficial or harmful. It’s a good thing because skin care is obviously crucial. Your skin is your body’s greatest organ, and protecting and caring for it is about more than just appearing young or poreless

– it’s about keeping healthy. The inflow of information and ideas from just about anyone can easily lead many of us to make some fairly major skincare blunders without even recognizing it. Although some of these blunders are completely innocuous and will most likely be useless, others can cause discomfort, acne, and possibly a dermatologist visit.

Here are a few common skincare errors that most people are unaware of;

Pimple popping: Popping pimples on your face takes your skin back two steps for every step forward it makes, not to mention the acne scars it may leave after. To tell you the truth, popping zits is fun, but at what price? To be honest, squeezing an unpoppable pimple will not only create discomfort, but it will also drive germs and pus deeper into the skin, causing skin injuries such as piercing, redness, and swelling.

Using bar soap on the face:

The moisturizing soap you use to wash your face should be the first thing you eliminate from your skincare routine. Using bar soap on your face, especially dehydrates your skin, allowing dead skin cells to accumulate. Bar soaps also counteract the benefits of using an exfoliation, whether it’s a scrub or a chemical exfoliant; instead, use a moisturizing cleanser to get the best effects.

Using your hands to rub products into your skin: Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to rub a product thoroughly into your skin to see its results. In fact, pressing your skin too hard might irritate it, resulting in redness and swelling. Apply items to your face and neck with soft, upward strokes as a tip.

Not double cleansing: Double washing entails removing all of your makeup with a cleansing oil, balm, or Micellar water, then removing everything else with a water-based cleanser. The procedure may appear time-consuming, but it is the most effective way to TAMBARI SUNDAY, APRIL 10, 2022 remove all of the makeup, filth, dirt, oils, sweat, and bacteria that have accumulated on your face throughout the day. You’re probably not scrubbing completely enough if you’re not double cleansing, which can contribute to breakouts and irritation.

Not changing pillowcase often: You might not have known that your pillowcase is an important element of your skin-care regimen. Many people make the mistake of not changing their pillowcases frequently enough, resulting in acne. Changing your pillowcase every few days, if not every day, is a good idea, especially if you don’t wash all of your makeup off. You should also use a silk pillowcase, which will soften your skin and aid in anti-aging.
