Gombe Utd hold Bendel Insurance as Abia Warriors wallop Dakkada

Gombe United yesterday became the first team to stop Bendel Insurance from scoring and picking the maximum points during the Match Day 6 of the 2022/23 Nigeria Profession­al Football League.

Insurance had gone into the game with a perfect record of 5 wins in 5 games but had that streak snapped as the game ended goalless at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The ‘Benin Arsenal’ had kicked off the proceeding­s with vigour and confidence creating several chances in the process. Imade Osarenkhoe was a major threat to the Gombe side but was unable to hurt their visitors.

At the restart of the second half, coach Monday Odigie who had kept faith with his winning eleven made some changes as he sought to make it 6 wins consecutiv­ely.

The hosts piled up huge pressure looking for the evasive goal that never

came that necessitat­ed Gombe United players going down on their kneel to thank God for a point picked at the final whistle.

In the other game played, Abia Warriors walloped Dakkada FC 4-2 at the Nest of Champions, Uyo.

In the 27th minute, Emmanuel Onu capitalize­d on a loose ball to get the opener to give

the Warriors the lead as the first half ended 1-0.

Two minutes into the second half, John Peter doubled the lead to shock the hosts. In the 65th minute, the lead was cut by half by Emmanuel Ayoas to make it 2-1.

In the 79th minute, Felix Aniekwe made it three for the Warriors with a long-range strike but the hosts were not giving up as

Aniekan Ekpe made it 3-2 in the 84th minute.

It was tense final minutes as Dakkada sought for an equaliser but Monday Yakubu ended the ambition with a 90th minute to end the game 4-2.

Meanwhile, action continues today when Enyimba host El-Kanemi Warriors while Remo Stars visit Akwa United.

Nasarawa United will look to pick their first league win they trade tackle with Shooting Stars while Plateau United battle Kwara United.

Rivers United will be guests to Doma United while Niger Tornadoes hosts Lobi Stars. Enugu Rangers will play against Wikki Tourists while Bayelsa United fight for points with Sunshine Stars.
