Lagos Polo: Majekodunmi Cup second stage gallops-off

Lagos biggest polo prize, the Majekodunmi Cup will be the star attraction as the prestigious Lagos international polo extravaganza enters its second stage this week and the legendary Ribadu Road polo arena in Ikoyi.

Lagos Polo Tournament Manager, Ogunnusi confirmed to Polo Royals that the second stage will run from February 14 and climax on February 20, 2022, with two Lagos’ teams and one visiting team gunning for the biggest and one of Africa’s most wanted polo titles.

Ahead of the winners-takesall second stages, aficionados and polo buffs are already salivating at the chances of witnessing the crowning of the new champions of the highly revered 70-year-old prize as defending champion, Kano Lintex and former champions Leighton Kings seek to re-enact their festering rivalry.

The much-anticipated 2023 NPA/GTCO Lagos International Polo Tournament has already produced its first major winner, as the Lagos Leighton Kings defeated Wiltten Aviation team from Port Harcourt, to clinch the glittering Adedapo Ojora Memorial Cup last weekend.

The Bowale Jolaoso led side that parade Muyiwa Oni, and two Argentine professionals, Facundo and Nico Ratamar started with a spark, dominating the five chukka game from first chukka, shooting down the Aviation Boys 12-41/2 to celebrate their first-ever Dapo Ojora Cup in grand style.

The visitors from the Garden City boasting their Patron, Captain Iyene, Ahmadu Umar, Facundo Lorente and Peter Webb, took the lead in the opening minutes of the game, but the Kings responded with two quick fires through the Ratamars and remained in front till the final bell.
