Children win cash prizes, others at Think Art festival in Abuja

It was a good day for many parents and children as they went home with huge cash prizes, scholarships and others at the just concluded Think Art Festival.

The festival, which collected entries from children all over Abuja, saw the winners go home with N100,000 for the first prize, N60,000 for the second prize and N40,000 as the third prize.

Winner of the contest, Ajayi Imran, whose artwork portrayed a dark city under skies and was titled “Splashes of hope” said his work meant that no matter how dark a city or nation is, the skies are bright and remain a source of hope.

“I want to use ‘splashes of hope’ to show that hope is eternal. I made the city dark and the sky is colourful because even in our darkest times, we look up to the skies for hope.”

Second Winner of the contest,

Faith Michael, also centred her work around human beings having hope in bad times.

She said; “my representation of gold pouring down through a broken heart is to show how God fills us with hope even when we are broken and letting us know that we are still beautiful even when broken.”

Ceo Kokab’s House of art, and sponsor of the event, Kokab Farouk, noted that it was important for children to be exposed to art and creativity as it will help them to be more expressive with their inner thought.

She said: Art can pose as a form of expression for children. If a child is lonely or going through something, they might not speak but through their art can communicate how they feel.

Organizer of the event, Agoreyo Oke Armstrong, also noted that with this year’s contest being the maiden edition, the contest will be scheduled to hold annually and will be taken nationwide.
