Adamawa: GDSS Demsa needs attention

- Mubarak Shuaibu Shelleng wrote from Yola

Iwant to commend Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for the great work he has done in the educational sector of Adamawa State. Thanks to your efforts, we now enjoy free education, and many young people have been awarded scholarships to pursue higher education. You have also employed qualified teachers, which has greatly improved the quality of education in the state.

However, I would like to draw your attention to the Government Day Secondary School Nasarawo Demsa (GDSS) located in Nasarawo, Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

This school has a high number of students compared to other government secondary schools within Demsa communities. Most children from the neighborhoods study there, especially those from Nasarawo, Behind Rest House Area, Wayam, Behind New Market Area, Kawan Dowaya, Sabon Gari, Dakanta, Zuran, Dom Sakato, Dowaya, among other suburbs part of Demsa Local government Area Adamawa State.

Despite the high population of the school, it lacks the necessary resources and infrastructure to accommodate the students. For over a decade, the senior section of the school had a few classes used for administrative work, and two twin halls mainly built for external examinations which have been converted to classrooms and are shared for both science and arts students. There are no scientific laboratories, libraries, and other relevant and related materials that will be used to enhance teaching and learning.

As a result, we call on your attention to this issue. The communities in the Demsa Local Government Area rely solely on this particular school, and community leaders, politicians, and elders have called for government’s attention to the need to build additional classrooms and provide other relevant teaching and learning materials, but all to no avail.

While previous administrations have pledged to build additional classrooms in the school, they have failed to fulfill that promise. We believe that your administration, which has made significant strides in the educational sector, will give this issue the attention it deserves.

Education is critical to our future, and we hope that you will take action to improve the educational infrastructure at GDSS and ensure that these students have access to the resources they need to succeed.

Thank you for your attention.
