Armed Forces Day: Plateau extols ex-servicemen for role in peace
The Plateau State deputy governor, Ambassador Ignatius Longjan, said yesterday that the state government owes gratitude to ex-servicemen for the role they played in efforts to restore lasting peace in the state.
Longjan, who spoke to newsmen immediately after representing Governor Jonah Jang at this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony at the state capital, Jos, said the ex-servicemen did a lot in encouraging people in their various communities to live peacefully with their neighbours.
“After staking their lives during the civil war to keep Nigeria one, the ex-servicemen have remained agents of unity in Plateau State, preaching peace and taking steps in their various communities to see that peace is maintained across the state,” Longjan said.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day was marked at the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat in Tudun Wada area of Jos, with laying of wreaths by the deputy governor on behalf of the governor, other top government officials, heads of military formations in the state, among other personalities.
