FG to strengthen math, science education training in secondary schools
The supervising Minister of Education Nyesom Wike has assured that its Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE) training programme which is on-going in primary schools will be replicated in secondary schools.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the first cohort cycle II training of SMASE organised by the National Teachers Institute (NTI) in Kaduna.
Wike, who was represented by the National Coordinator of SMASE, Mr. Chimezie Aguyi, noted that the ongoing SMASE training for mathematics and science teachers at the primary school level will be extended to secondary schools as well as colleges of education.
“SMASE is not going to end at the primary schools level, it is our plan to extend it to secondary school teachers and even integrate it into our full service education system with the National Commission for Colleges of Education so that our lecturers that are teaching our students will come out and teach others to have knowledge of SMASE before graduating from schools,” he said. Jonathan, IGP will be held responsible if democracy fails – Tsav Former Lagos State commissioner of police, Abubakar Tsav, yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan and the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar will be held responsible if the current democracy fails.
Tsav, who slammed the president and the IGP over their attitude towards the alleged shooting of Senator Magus Abe in Rivers State, said a similar incident occurred in the Second Republic.
He said during that period, Governors Mohammed Goni of Borno State, Abubakar Rimi of Kano State and Jim Nwobodo of Anambra State, “faced the kind of problem Amaeachi is facing with the police commissioner in his state.
“We had the same situation in Borno between then Governor Goni and Commissioner of Police Atahiru Jidda, in Kano, between Abubakar Rimi and CP Sani Wali, and in Anambra, between Governor Nwobodo and CP Eiyetene. The consequences of these are well known to us. That democracy did not survive. The president and the IGP must realize that they will be held responsible if this democracy fails. The president and the IGP have continually maintained sealed lips over the constant use of armed policemen to frustrate lawful gatherings in Rivers State,” he said.
