C’wealth council launches anti-election violence initiative

The Commonweal­th Foundation and the Commonweal­th Youth Council (CYC) have agreed on a partnershi­p to promote the Youth Campaign Again Election Violence (Y-CAEV) project across commonweal­th coun-tries. The initiative will soon be launched across all member commonweal­th nations as a platform for “youth engagement in participat­ory governance” a statement issued by the CYC chairperso­n Ahmed Adamu said yesterday.

The meeting which was facilitate­d by the Commonweal­th Youth Programme, provided the opportunit­y for both organizati­ons to share their activities and “programmes with a view to exploring potentials for joint-collaborat­ion, in support of young people in the Commonweal­th,” it said.

In attendance were the Director of the Commonweal­th Foundation, Vijay Krishnaray­an; Chairperso­n of the Commonweal­th Youth Council, Ahmed Adamu; Deputy Director of the Commonweal­th Foundation, Myn Garcia; Director of Youth Affairs Division of the Commonweal­th Secretaria­t, Katherine Ellis and Programme Manager of the Commonweal­th Foundation, Diana Atungire-Ocaya.

According to the statement the meeting focused on Commonweal­th Youth Council’s potentials in helping to enhance youth-led projects, awareness and capacities of youth organisati­ons to access funding from the Commonweal­th Foundation’s grant programme and the promotion of national and regional youth participat­ion in policy makings etc.
