- By Abdulwasiu Hassan

Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, has called for the establishment of more presidential libraries by past leaders with a view to preserving history and enhancing reading culture among the citizenry.

Professor Okojie made the call while receiving copies of the book titled “Goodluck/Sambo Presidency: A symbol of peace and unity” for onward distribution to Nigerian universities.

He said: “There is a need for creation of more presidential libraries by Nigeria’s past leaders so that people will have opportunity to know about the history of their rule.”

The NUC executive secretary also called on local government areas across the country to build libraries in their domains as part of their contribution to improving reading culture.

Professor Okojie, who commended the author of the book, Dr Adesanya Mercy of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, assured that they would be distributed to the libraries of Nigeria’s 129 universities.

Okojie, who expressed concern on the dearth of literature material, stressed the need for the distribution of copies of the book to secondary and post secondary institutions across the country.
