Kwali council awards culvert contracts for rural communities
The Chairman of Kwali Area Council in the FCT, Mr. Ibrahim Daniel, yesterday disclosed that the council has awarded N56 million contract for the construction of culverts across some rural communities in the area.
Ibrahim, who was speaking during an interview with our reporter, said the council’s decision for the project was aimed at facilitating movement of rural dwellers, especially farmers to move their farm products to the nearest market.
He said some of the communities where such culverts will be constructed include Lukoda, Chukuku Tsoho, Leleyi among other villages, saying they are communities that are always cut-off from other neighboring villages during rainy season.
He said during his electioneering campaign to rural communities, he noted some of the problems facing the rural dwellers to include good road networks, electricity, water, dilapidated school structures and health centers.
The chairman said the council on assumption of office, embarked on free medical treatments that include surgeries, eye treatments, and other health services to over 3,000 residents of the area.
Daniel said it has proposed in this year’s budget to procure a drilling machine that will solely be used to sink boreholes across the rural communities in order to cushion the perennial water scarcity facing some rural villages.
He said the council has also awarded a contract for the construction of the YangojiLukoda road, saying the road, if completed, would facilitate movements of people and goods in rural areas.
