6 passengers injured in Piri village auto crash

Six passengers were seriously injured in a motor accident that occurred on Monday afternoon at Piri village, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

An eyewitness said the accident happened around 2:12 pm when the driver of a Volkswagen Golf car with registrati­on number RBC 382 XB, lost control, veered off the road andcrashed into a ditch, leaving six passengers seriously injured.

He said the Golf car’s driver, which was conveying passengers from Gwagwalada to Lokoja, somersault­ed thrice before crashing into the ditch.

According to him, men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to the hospital.

Yangoji unit commander of the FRSC, Austine Chukwudi Okeke, who confirmed the accident, attributed it over-speeding, saying the six injured victims that comprised of four males, one female and a child were taken to Kwali General Hospital for medical attention.

He further disclosed that two persons were also injured in another accident which occurred on Tuesday morning at Kwaita village, along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.

The FRSC commander said the accident happened around 9 am when the driver of a Toyota pickup van with registrati­on number XA 707 MGA lost control while on speed and crashed into a ditch.

He said the two injured victims were also taken to Kwali General Hospital.
