- From Rakiya A. Muhammad, Sokoto

The crisis rocking the Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened with the emergence of two parallel interim executive committees.

Following Governor Aliyu Wamakko’s defection from PDP to APC, two factions of the party emerged in the state, one led by the governor and the other by former governor Attahiru Bafarawa.

While the Wamakko-led APC had on Sunday evening issued a statement signed by the deputy national treasurer Alhaji Usman Danmadami announcing the approval of the constitution of a 9-man interim executive committee for the state, the Bafarawa-led faction of the party yesterday at a ceremony held at the party’s factional headquarters along Old Airport Road, Sokoto made public a 5-man interim executive committee members.

The Wamakko’s faction in its statement said: “Following consultations with the leaders of the party in the state, His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Executive Governor of Sokoto State, the Interim National Executive Committee of All Progressive Congress (APC), have approved the constitution of the Sokoto interim Executive committee of the party in a letter dated 7th January, 2014.”

It said the Sokoto APC Interim Executive committee has as chairman the former Minister of Youths and Social Development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir. Other members it said include Prof. Musa Maitafsir, AlhajiTukur Alkali, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, Alhaji Usman Danmadami, Abbas Gandi, Sidi Aliyu and Harande Mahe.

On the other hand, the Bafarawa-led faction announced yesterday that its interim executive committee chairman is Alhaji Abubakar Sanyinna and Alhaji Lawal Faru as Secretary.

Others include Alhaji Nasiru Kalambaina, treasurer; Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, publicity secretary and Alhaji Nasiru Asara, organizing secretary.

In their respective addresses at the event, the former chairman of the defunct ANPP, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, former chairman of the defunct CPC, Alhaji Yahaya Tureta, and former state secretary of the defunct ACN, Alhaji Nasiru Kalambaina, stressed that the Bafarawa-led faction was the one recognized by the interim national leadership.
