Youth demands inclusion in national dialogue
Chairperson the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) Ahmed Adamu has said Nigerian youth must be given the ample opportunity to participate in the forthcoming national conference.
Also, President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Yakubu Shendam has advised the federal government to consider including representatives
of from the 450 ethnic groups in the country to the planned national dialogue.
Addressing newsmen at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja yesterday, the CYC chair, Adamu on his arrival from the United Kingdom, said whatever would be discussed at the conference will help shape the future of the country whose youth stand to feel the impact most.
“What we are saying here is that the youth are the future of the country. It is about the future of the young people. What decision is reached will affect this segment of the society since they are the future leaders,” he said.
He said from the very start, the youth must be allowed to participate in setting the agenda for the conference as well as been given good representation during the conference.
According to him, “Let’s hear what the youth are saying and what to be discussed. The youth need to be included in the process to set agenda for the conference. It gives them sense of inclusion and participation.”
Adamu who was elected the pioneer chairperson of the CYC last November said he was returning to the country to meet with leaders on ways to move the nation forward especially with close collaboration with the youth.
He is to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate president David Mark, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal among other leaders.
