Transport company introduces prepaid ticket

- By Taiwo Adeniyi

Some residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed optimism over the prepaid paper tickets to be introduced by the Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company Limited (AUMTCO), describing it as in line with world’s best practices.

The residents, who spoke to our reporter, commended the management of the transport company for the proposed introduction of a prepaid paper ticketing which would be in use from tomorrow and called for an increase in its awareness.

According to a resident, Adekola Samson, the new ticketing method would help in curbing reoccurring disagreements between the vehicle drivers and commuters over lesser naira denominations.

“With this new ticketing method, queues would be minimal and movement would be enhanced but the management should sensitize the residents more on it,” he said.

Another resident, Mrs. Beatrice James, who expressed fear about the availability of the prepaid paper tickets called on the AUTMCO to ensure easy accessibility at all designated places.

The Head, Marketing and Communications of AUMTCO, Tunde Akintola, while recently addressing newsmen in Abuja, said the prepaid paper tickets would solve the problem of lesser denominations and enhance the transportation of commuters within the city.

According to him, the tickets which would be available at all terminals, bus stops, depots, agents and various selling points, are in various denominations in tune with the fares paid by the commuters.

“Cash would not be allowed on our buses anymore and civil servants and residents can purchase the tickets monthly for keep as it does not have a time limit,” he said.

He however sought the support of residents in embracing the innovation.
