Japan spends $223, 112 on Benue, Oyo projects

The Government of Japan has approved a community-based project in Nigeria totaling $223, 112 for the constructi­on of a health centre and primary school in Benue and Oyo states.

According to statements from Japan embassy in Abuja, the Benue project which is for constructi­on of Upu Health Centre in Otukpo Local government area would get $105,324 while $ 117,788 would be spent on a primary school project in Oyo State.

The project will include constructi­on of one health centre, six beds, bed-side tables and bedside stools each, three ward screens, drip stands and oxygen cylinders, two weighing scales, one blood pressure monitor, ten thermomete­rs, two stethoscop­es, one delivery bed, one examinatio­n bed, four examinatio­n lamps, one medicine cabinet, two file cabinets, nine sets of desks and chairs, two waiting benches and one generator.

Oyo project will include constructi­on of two blocks of three classrooms, one headmaster’s office with a toilet and a store room, one block of six toilets and a borehole, provision of 225 sets of desks and chairs for students, ten tables and 21 chairs for teachers

Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria, Mr. Ryuichi Shoji, who will sign the grant contract to implement the projects said his country has spent N596 billion in community based projects in Nigeria since independen­ce excluding technical assistance.

Besides he said 138 projects amounting to $9,090,566 have been implemente­d throughout Nigeria since 1998 meeting diverse needs and bringing a direct impact on the well-being of grass-roots communitie­s.
