Nasarawa APC chieftain seeks dissolution of exco

- From Hir Joseph, Lafia

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Omar Nurudeen, is challenging the inclusion of three persons namely; Stanley Buba, Mustapha Galadima and Princess Florence Ayi as members of the interim management committee of the APC in the state.

Nurudeen, a 2011 Lafia-Obi federal constituency candidate of the ACN, has sworn an affidavit to support his claims that the three appointed as state chairman, secretary and treasurer of APC respectively, were not members of any of the legacy parties that merged into the APC, hence are not qualified to head the party in the state saying this violates the provisions of Schedule II(1)(i) of the Constitution of the APC.

The plaintiff submitted documents to support his claim that the three interim leaders were still members of the Labour Party in the case of Arch Buba, and PDP in the case of Barrister Galadima and Princess Ayi, respectively as at the time they were appointed into the management committee of the state APC called State Harmonization Committee (SHC).

He is seeking a court declaration that the Constitution of the SHC in Nasarawa did not adhere to a fair and democratic process as mandated by Article 7(vii) of the APC constitution, as well as the guidelines of the party for the constitution of the SHC.

The plaintiff is also seeking a declaration that he be appointed into the SHC because of his eligibility.

In the case which he joined the APC at both state and national levels, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, and the three management committee members, Nurudeen is seeking the court to declare whether the governor can, “jointly or separately, unilaterally appoint” members of the SHC without adhering to party’s guidelines; and whether members of other political parties can make the SHC.

Justice Aisha Ahmed, had on Friday, granted the orders sought by the plantiff’s counsel, seeking to serve the governor, the APC and all other parties joined as defendants by substituted means while the case has been scheduled for mentioning on January 27.
