N5bn pension Scam: Absence of second accused stalls Teidi’s bail

- By John Chuks Azu

The absence of the man charged along with civil servant Sani Teidi over alleged diversion of N5 billion pension funds yesterday stalled his bail hearing.

Teidi, a former Director of Pension Accounts in the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, was arraigned by the EFCC alongside a former manager of the defunct Oceanic Bank Plc, Mr. Udusegbe Omoefe Eric.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola in June, 2013 granted Teidi bail in the sum of N500 million bail.

The judge further ordered him to produce two sureties who must deposit the title deeds of their property including their travel documents with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court.

At the resumed hearing, Teidi’s counsel Shuiabu Ameh (SAN) told the court that his client has fulfilled the bail conditions and ought to be released from Kuje prison where he is being remanded.

But EFCC counsel Godwin Obla (SAN) urged the court not to grant the accused person bail on the ground that some of the previous sureties he brought forged documents for which the bailiff of the court is facing trial.

The judge, who observed that the second accused person is absent in court, adjourned the hearing to Friday February 21.
