13 awaiting trial inmates regain freedom in Kwara
The Kwara State Criminal Justice Committee led by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Ayinla Bamgbola, yesterday freed 13 awaiting trial inmates from prison custody.
The inmates who regained freedom during a prison decongestion outreach were among the 219 awaiting trial inmates in the prison.
“We are here to make sure that those who ought not to be here do not continue to be here. This is exactly what has happened. We have seen them and we have followed the law. We are here to make sure that anybody who is not here according to the law is released and people who have spent more time than they would have if convicted, they should not be there. That is the law which has brought us here and upon which we have acted today”, Justice Bamgbola said.
