Lagos bans smoking in public places
The bill to check smoking in public places has been signed into law by Governor Babatunde Fashola.
Daily Trust gathered that a bill to regulate the Lagos State Emergency Command and Control Centre has also been signed into law.
Governor Fashola, while signing the bills, said the step would enhance the state’s resolve to protect lives and property.
The state Attorney-General Ade Ipaye said the bill prohibits residents from smoking in public places such as libraries, museum, public toilets, schools, hospitals, day care centres, public transportation, restaurants among others. He said penalties for violators of the law range from N10,000 to N50,000 fines to three months imprisonment.
He said section four of the bill states that occupiers of public places must ensure that approved “No - Smoking” signs are displayed conspicuously at their premises.
