Shehu of Borno appointed N/Delta varsity chancellor

The Shehu of Borno and Deputy Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, was yesterday in Abuja appointed the Pro-Chancellor of the Niger-Delta University (NDU), Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Governor Henry Seriake Dickson represente­d by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Prof. Edmund Allison Oguru, said one of the reasons for the choice of the Shehu was his ranking as the second highest traditiona­l ruler in the North and to strengthen the existing cordial relationsh­ip between the North and the South-South.

While accepting the offer, the royal father expressed delight saying it is a great honour to be so appointed.

While soliciting for support of students and other stakeholde­rs of the institutio­n, he said the university must stand for the present and future of the nation and assured that he and other officials of the institutio­n will develop it to a world class centre of learning.
