Economic summit seeks to revamp Nigeria’s education
The 20th Nigerian Economic Summit seeks to redefine the Nigerian educational sector and position it to be globally competitive and relevant to Nigeria’s economic development.
The Supervising Minister, National Planning Commission (NPC), Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, stated this in Lagos yesterday at the inauguration of the joint planning committee for the 20th NESG summit.
The summit is a flagship of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and it is holding from March 18 to 20 in Abuja.
This year’s summit, he said, is designed to build a national consensus on what is required to build, revamp and reinforce the education sector to secure Nigeria’s future, adding that the outcomes of the summit will feed into the public policy on Nigeria’s education.
He noted that the education sector holds the key to transformational national development and the ability of Nigeria to compete on a global level.
“The key objective of the summit is to strive towards having permanent structural changes that would allow the development of 21st century skills in Nigerian children. We require new ways of building capacities and capabilities in the education and learning space to ensure Nigeria has a labour force that is highly skilled, innovative and globally competitive,” Ambassador Yuguda stated.
Frank Nweke Jnr, the Director General, NESG, explained that the “decision to hold the summit on education is to address the decline in a sector that is critical to economic development.”
