Oil marketers to build refinery

-

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has implored the National Assembly to give it long-term protection in order to facilitate its access to loan to build refinery in the country.

President of the association, Alhaji Aminu Abdulkadri, disclosed this in Lagos at the weekend during the flag off of the sale of kerosene at N50 per litre in all states of the southwest under the association’s kero-direct scheme.

He noted that importation of petroleum products into the country is counter-productive to the economy, stressing that building more refineries would avail Nigerians long term benefits in accessing this product.

‘’We are not supposed to be importing refined products; we are supposed to be injecting products into the West African markets. We have the largest crude oil deposit in Africa and the sixth largest in the world. So we do not deserve to import but deserve to be exporting our own refined products so that Nigerians will continue to reap benefits from the natural deposits God has endowed this country with”, he said.

Abdulkadri explained that the exercise was aimed at ensuring the product gets to end users under the government kero-direct initiative.

He said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has allocated 5000metric tons of kerosene to marketers under the scheme, adding that the gesture is also being spread all over the country.
