Power generation: Agency wants patronage of solar panels
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has asked for full patronage of the agency’s solar panel by government and private firms.
NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive, Dr. Mohammed Sani Haruna, who said this when he toured the agency’s Karshi Solar Panel plant along with journalists in Abuja, noted that data shows that 60 per cent of Nigerians living in rural communities do not have access to the national grid and it is only through solar panel that they could be lit.
He emphasized that solar energy has been identified as the only potential alternative renewable energy or source of power generation that can tackle Nigeria’s epileptic power supply.
“With full patronage of NASENI 7.5 M/W solar panel which has local content, the epileptic power generation in the country will become a thing of the past”, said Engr. Haruna.
The NASENI boss noted that Karshi Solar Panel plant is the first federal government manufacturing solar plant in Nigeria and the West African region, adding that Nigeria would have joined the league of countries that produce solar panels for export but for lack of adequate funding and support by critical stakeholders in the power industry.
