I won’t leave PDP - Tukur

Immediate past national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, yesterday said he remains committed to the PDP and won’t be defecting to another party.

Tukur’s wife was reported to have registered with the All Progressiv­es Congress (APC) in Kaduna last week.

The former national chairman who stated this when a PDP pressure group, National Consolidat­ed Group (NCG) paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja, said he will continue to be in the PDP to give it unalloyed support.

He said PDP remains the only reliable platform to serve Nigeria and called on PDP members, who have defected to other political parties to have a rethink and return to the party’s fold.

“The PDP is solid, intact and united as ever. This is evident by the influx of politician­s to the PDP. Many more politician­s, men and women of goodwill will still join the party. Truly, the PDP is the party to beat. I enjoined all members of PDP family who have defected to other parties to have a rethink and return to the fold of the PDP.

“I call on you and indeed all Nigerians to vote massively for the PDP in future elections and support the PDP as the party is a united political family. I urge you people to work for PDP and ensure that there is peace and harmonious existence in the party. I will also continue to serve the PDP and work for the party for in the party lies the greatest hope for a united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” Tukur stated.

He urged the group to remain as a pressure group saying government­s need pressure to work.

The national coordinato­r of the group, Francis Ajon jon Ugboho, said the immediate objective of the group is to work k for the re-election of President esident Goodluck Jonathan onathan in the 2015 general elections.

The group appealed ppealed to Tukur to use the influence of his good office ce to serve as a rallying point int for the youths, adding, , “as you may be aware, the youths make up the majority of the workforce and voting strength in the political olitical space and guiding them em rightly translate into putting things right in our political realm.”
