North West PDP berates chieftain over ‘Sai Goodluck’ comment

- By Musa Abdullahi Krishi

North West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday reacted to comments by a chieftain of the party, Umar Abdullahi Tsauri (Tata), who ridiculed the solidarity visit paid to President Goodluck Jonathan by PDP political leaders from the zone.

Tata in an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan alleged that those that went to see the President were the same persons that put the party in its current sorry state in the zone and said many of them cannot chant “Sai Goodluck” in their respective states unless they are protected with armoured tanks.

The North West PDP in a statement by its secretary, Bashir Tanimu Gambo, said this is not true and cautioned Tata to stop making insulting statements on leaders of the party.

“What a shameless falsehood. Section 10(4) in chapter 3 of people’s Democratic Party (PDP) constitution states that “No member of the party shall bring to public attention disagreements and conflicts within the party unless expressly authorized to do so” also section 10(1) (k) states, “A member shall be loyal to the party and not do anything that is inconsistent with its constitution.”

The party said it is not unmindful of the fact that the party has challenges but that all members are one before it while it is working hard to ensure the PDP remains the party to beat in all elections.

It derided the approach taken by Tata to write to the President saying it views this as an indecent approach in trying to get cheap popularity and has shown that Tata is completely cut from what is truly happening in the PDP.

“Agreed we paid solidarity visit to the president. We went to express our gratitude and happiness over the laudable projects done to our zone by the current administration under the leadership of Mr. President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan,” the party stated and cautioned the chieftain not tot take them back to the politics of religion and tribalism.

“In the light of the above, we advise Tata to in the best interest of our great party desist from such insulting and false alarm statements that are capable of undermining the good reputation our great party earned on Nigerians”, it said.
