Red House wins 2014 Great Heights Inter-House sports

The 2014 edition of the Great Heights Academy’s Biennial Inter-House Sports Competitio­n came to a thrilling end at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment last Saturday, with pupils of Red House emerging the overall winners with 16 gold, nine silver and12 bronze medals.

The competitio­n, which was the sixth edition of the biennial sports fiesta, saw Green House taking the second position with 11 gold, 12 silver and 16 bronze medals; Blue House was third with 11 gold, 11 silver and seven bronze medals, while Yellow House placed fourth with nine gold 16, silver and 10 bronze medals.

The result was the total number of medals garnered from events in the primary and secondary school competitio­ns.

In the primary school category, Red House topped the medals table with 11 gold, three silver and eight bronze medals, followed by Blue House with six gold, nine silver and three bronze medals; Yellow House was third with five gold, nine silver and five bronzes, while Green House was fourth with five gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals.

Green House emerged tops in the secondary school category with six gold, six silver and six bronze medals, Red House was second with five gold, six silver and four bronze medals; Blue House took the third position with five gold, two silver and four bronzes, while Yellow House was fourth with four gold, seven silver and five bronze medals.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the school’s Director Hajia Rabi Nanpari said the event was organized to ensure the children were healthy and fit, as well as encourage the students to take to athletics.

She emphasized the need for children to take to sports in order to reduce cases of obesity and food disorder that currently affect many people in the society.
