9 suspected cultists nabbed in Kwara poly
Nine suspected cultists of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, have been arrested, Daily Trust gathered.
A source told Daily Trust that seven of the suspected cultists are students in the Departments of Computer Science, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Business Administration and Public Administration, while the remaining two are not students of the school.
It was gathered that suspected cultists have been terrorising the polytechnic community since last week; the latest was on Monday when a non-student was captured. He reportedly entered the campus and started shooting sporadically into the air.
It would be recalled that three of the suspected cultists who carried out last week’s attack were arrested through a joint effort of the police and the State Security Service (SSS).
Those arrested on Tuesday have been handed over to the police for further investigation, just as the affected students have been suspended pending the outcome of investigation of the case. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the arrest to Daily Trust saying investigation was ongoing towards getting to the root of the matter.
Speaking on the development, the polytechnic’s spokesman, Moshood Amuda, advised parents and guardians not to be apprehensive, adding that the first semester examinations are in progress.
