Confab: APC adamant, allows its governors to participate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday insisted it will not be participating in the forthcoming national conference but said it will allow its governors nominate representatives to the confab.
Interim national publicity secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed while explaining the party’s position to our correspondents, said the party’s earlier position has not changed as it will not be nominating participants for the conference..
“The APC has already through Governor Kayode Fayemi made its position known. The party has asked all its 16 governors to nominate members to the conference, this is because we have taken cognizance of the fact that our governors are not governors of APC members only but governors of all citizens in their various states,” he stated.
Governor Fayemi had on Sunday explained that in order to continue to engender participatory democracy, the governments of the APC controlled states will send delegates to the planned national conference as requested by the Federal Government.
Fayemi said the of APC controlled states are of the opinion that the generality of the people of their respective states should be given the chance to express their views on sundry national issues at the conference.
“As Governors, we are governors of all and not governors over our party members alone, hence the need to allow the states send delegates to the conference.”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Maxi Okwu faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) however nominated its deputy national chairman, Chief Chris Ejike and secretary, Sagir Auwal Maidoya, as its representative to the forthcoming national conference
APGA in a letter addressed to the office of the permanent secretary, Special Duties by the national chairman of the party, Chief Maxi Okwu, dated February 17, 2014, the party requested the federal government to accord the delegates the necessary recognition and facilities.
The Victor Umeh faction however did not respond to calls from our correspondents.
