Youth group disowns Belgore over defection
A youth group under the aegis of MDB Solidarity Group for Belgore, yesterday flayed the defection of Mr. Dele Belgore to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the decision was borne out of selfishness.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, spokesman of the group, Mr. Obalowu Olaitain said the group formed “on the principle, policies and platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has been the youth wing megaphone of Alhaji Dele Belgore.”
Belgore, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had last week dumped the party for PDP alleging injustice by the APC national leadership.
Olaitan described the defection of Belgore from APC to PDP “as embarrassing not just to the group but to all lovers of firm defence of Nigerian constitution and democracy.” Saying the birth of APC was in the best interest of Nigeria, the group said, “In the interest of well meaning Kwarans and Nigerians, we officially disassociate our forum from Dele Belgore political movement and announce our merger and harmonization with other progressives and vibrant youths of the state to be known and addressed as APC Team Kwara”.
However, in a swift reaction, Belgore lashed out at the group which he said never existed, saying it was the handiwork of those threatened by his “wellreasoned” defection to PDP.
Speaking with Daily Trust through his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye, Belgore noted that the only recognised youth group allied to him is MDB Solidarity Team, saying, “We wish Olaitan and his backers well as they continue to live in a fool’s paradise”.
